Synopsis: Luís da Silva, an ordinary man, a public servant, lonely and of few words, falls in love with the young Marina. They get involved and get engaged. Luís puts all his dreams into this marriage, but Marina leaves him for Julião Tavares, a man who represents everything that Luís most despises and envies, a member of the city's elite who enjoys the good life that Luís could never have. Overcome by jealousy and resentment, Luís is disturbed by the events that unfold.
